CE Requirements to Renew a FL Electrical License
In the state of Florida, electrical contractors are required to obtain either 11 or 7 hours of continuing education every 2 years.
CE hours must be earned in several different categories, depending on what type of license you hold:
- Certified Electrical Contractors = 11 hours of Continuing Education
- 1 hour workers' compensation
- 1 hour workplace safety
- 1 hour business practices
- 1 hour Florida Laws & Rules
- 7 hours of Technical to include 1 hour Florida Building Code advanced module course and 2 hours false alarm prevention for all certified electrical contractors who perform alarm work
- Registered Electrical Contractors = 11 hours of Continuing Education
- 1 hour workers' compensation
- 1 hour workplace safety
- 1 hour business practices
- 1 hour Florida Laws & Rules
- 7 hours of Technical to include 1 hour Florida Building Code advanced module course

If your license was issued less than 12 months prior to August 31st of the renewal year, you do not owe any continuing education.
If your license was issued more than 1 year, but less than 2 years, prior to August 31st of the renewal year, you owe either 5 or 4 hours of continuing education as follows:
- Certified Electrical Contractors = 5 hours of Continuing Education
- 1 hour workers' compensation
- 1 hour workplace safety
- 1 hour business practices
- 1 hour Florida Laws & Rules
- 1 hours of Technical (for all certified electrical contractors who perform alarm work the 1 hour Technical credit should be false alarm prevention)
- Registered Electrical Contractors = 5 hours of Continuing Education
- 1 hour workers' compensation
- 1 hour workplace safety
- 1 hour business practices
- 1 hour Florida Laws & Rules
- 1 hour of Technical
- Certified and Registered Alarm Contractors = 4 hours of Continuing Education
